Vizag is venue for next cabinet meet
The proposed executive capital of Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam, is likely to hold the cabinet meeting on December 27. The government offices in Amaravati are already geared up for the cabinet meeting in this port city, which has already got into the celebration mood after chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy making the announcement of having executive capital in Vizag.
According to the available information from the corridors of power in Amaravati, the chief minister had already directed the chief secretary and other senior officials to make arrangements for the cabinet meeting in Visakhapatnam.
The crucial cabinet meeting scheduled for December 27 is to discuss the expert committee report on the capital. The expert committee, headed by retired IAS officer, G N Rao, had submitted its detailed report to the chief minister last week.
The chief minister had announced that the state could go for three capitals, a South African model, with legislature (Assembly), executive (Secretariat) and judiciary (High Court) located in three different places.
The chief minister said that Visakhapatnam could be the executive capital (secretariat) with Kurnool having high court (judicial capital). The chief minister said that Amaravati could continue to be the legislative capital with Assembly sessions held here.
The expert committee too had made similar recommendations and had favoured holding summer session of Assembly in Visakhapatnam. These recommendations are to be discussed and approved at the cabinet meeting.
