Three killed, hundreds unconscious as gas leaks in Vizag
Chemical , poisonous gas leak emanated from L.G. Polymers at Venkatapuram near Gopalapatnam, Visakhapatnam in the early hours of Thursday caused hundreds into unconscious condition and as many four are reportedly lost their lives.
The residential areas within 5 kilometers of radius are evacuated from the locality through ambulances and rushed them to hospitals. Some who lost their conscious were shifted to King George Hospital and other hospitals in and around Gopalapatnam. People of Gopalapatnam, RR Venkatapuram and Narava villages are seriously affected.
According to sources, close to 2,500 people in the neighborhood were affected due to the gas leak and three have reportedly died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The public felt suffocation and burning eyes and within few minutes they fell down on floor unconsciously. Some of the locals fled towards Meghadrigedda reservoir to save themselves . The chief minister YS Jagan mohan Reddy immediately responded ,spoke to collector Vinay Chand, commissioner RK Meena and instructed to take immediate rescue operations. Anyhow two persons walled with closing eyes due to burning sensation have accidentally fell into wells and we're killed. The LG polymers company has been closed for the past 45 days die to lockdown and the management has initiated steps to re open again on Wednesday. Some of the staff,technicians undertook maintenance works in Wednesday. But in the early hours of Thursday, the gas leaked all of sudden and caused this disaster. Birds, animals like dogs,cows, goats also face the same fatal situation and lost their lives. Children, age old persons were shifted to K.G hospital
However, the number of casualties is yet to be ascertained.
