Naidu hails Modi's 'timely' package
Telugu Desam Party National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday lauded the determined steps being taken by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre by announcing Rs. 1.75 lakh crore special package.
Naidu termed it as a proactive measure to provide Rs. 50 lakh insurance cover to frontline warriors and health workers who are risking and sacrificing their lives in the field-level battle against coronavirus.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Modi today,
Naidu expressed confidence that under the able leadership of Modi and his economic stimulus, the country would bounce back courageously not only from the looming threat of COVID-19 but would also regain its position in global economy. The package would provide relief to two-thirds population now in this crucial time. In this light, it is also pertinent to provide a financial package to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which remain the backbone of Indian economy.
Naidu said that the Centre's package would give a new lease of life to frontline warriors, farmers, poor women, senior citizens, self-help groups, low-wage earners and workers under MGNREGA rural employment programme. The whole country voluntarily followed Modi's call to make Janata Curfew on March 22 a huge success. The countrymen would continue this support and solidarity to Modi and his team in tackling the deadly virus.
Stating that the people are sincerely following the Centre's 21-day lockdown, Naidu assured all support to the Modi government's fight against coronavirus threat and to set an example to the rest of the world by waging a united battle to eradicate the pandemic from the Indian soil. As part of this, the countrymen are staying at home and are following the epidemic guidelines.
Naidu said that the huge diverse population would now bravely fight against the virus. The financial package to farmers, ex-gratia to poor women, free gas cylinders to poor families, support to low-wage earners in organised sector and support to senior citizens are fitting steps towards protecting them from ill-effects of epidemic during lockdowns. It is a huge gesture of humanity on the part of the Modi government to ensure that no Indian would go to bed on an empty stomach during this hard time. About two-thirds of population will benefit from the scheme.
Naidu said that distribution of pulses to ensure that everyone gets proper nourishment is visionary in its thought and action. Timely steps are taken to increase wages under MNREGA, benefit workers in organised sector through Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and grant additional credit to women self-help groups (SHGs). Appropriate steps are taken to build confidence among the poor and downtrodden of our society in ably fighting COVID-19.
