LG Polymers CEO, 11 others arrested
The government of Andhrapradesh has taken serious action on the management of LG polymers for causing a gruesome industrial mishap which 14 are killed and hundreds hospitalized in Visakhapatnam on 7 May. The government has appointed a high-power committee headed by Neerab Kumar and it has submitted it's report on Monday to the chief minister YS Jagan mohan Reddy. The committee probed in multidimensional perspective and found fault with the management of the firm. It pointed out many lapses and man made mistakes. Based on the report on Tuesday LG Polymers CEO Sunkey Jeong has been taken into custody on Tuesday evening.
Along with the CEO, 11 others were arrested, including director of the plant D.S. Kim and additional director Mohan Rao and styrene monomer engineers.
The report revealed that the styrene monomer vapour leak occurred because of human negligence and lapses in following safety and security standards by the management. The government has initiated immediate steps to control the spreading of gas and established a permanent medical center in RR Venkatapuram, where the LG Polymers is located. YS Jagan mohan Reddy, the CM rushed to Vizag soon after the incident occurred and announced Rs.1 crores compensation to all deceased and 10,000 financial assistance to every individual in that area. Finally after getting the report, the government has arrested the top management in that incident .
