Jagan Raises SCS issue in Niti-Ayog conference
YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhrapradesh has raised the demand of people of Andhrapradesh to get Special category status(SCS) in front of the prime minister Narendra Modi. Actually getting the SCS also was one of his poll promises then he stated that he would fight with the union government to get the special category status to Andhrapradesh. Now the opposition TDP also frequently questioning Jagan for not fighting with center in this regard. He met the prime minister and several union ministers and submitted memorandums in this regard but so far its not realized. Anyhow on Saturday, he participated in a virtual conference organized by Niti-Ayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jagan raised the issue of special category states. He said rapid industrialization of my State is possible if only “Special Category Status” is firmly told. “This was an assurance given in the house of Parliament and was a pre-condition to the bifurcation,” he reminded. The chief minister pointed out that despite providing a business-friendly environment, the industrialization in Andhra Pradesh was yet to gain required growth momentum. “This is due to several constraints, resulting from the unjust and inequitable bifurcation of the erstwhile State of Andhra Pradesh. The bifurcation resulted in my State being deprived of tier I city, infrastructure, employment opportunities and financial resources. Hence, it requires special category status to get the required momentum,” he said. He requested the Prime Minister, among many other things, the Centre’s support for quick approval of revised cost estimates of and the timely completion of the Polavaram Irrigation Project, declared as a National project. “The project is regarded as my State’s lifeline and the completion of the same would contribute significantly to the increase in irrigated area,” he said. With this, Jagan has cleared that he is not compromised with the interests of the state and he has been demanding the union government and he is putting his entire efforts to get the tag to the state of Andhrapradesh.
