Jagan might seal Botsa lose mouth
The ruling YSR Congress in AP is having tough time these days not with the opposition TDP, but with its own leader and Minister for Municipal Administration Botsa Satyanarayana.
The Minister had let his mouth lose on the possible alliance between the YSR Congress and the BJP. Naturally, the statement had hit the headlines of the media in AP, which always waits to take a revenge against Jaganmohan Reddy.
Though Botsa claims to have not made any such remarks, the statement became a hot news in the State with the media highlighting it. That too, his statement was made after the visit of Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to Delhi where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
When Jagan went to Delhi twice in the last week, the media carried a speculative news that he was called to talk about the possible alliance between the two parties. Though there was no official statement about the alliance from either of the parties, Bosta Satyanarayana is said to have given enough hints on this possibility.
He, while addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam, was quoted as saying that the YSR Congress would take any decision that would help the State and the people. He meant it even if it is going for alliance with the BJP.
The statement had caused severe damage to the ruling party in the state. The chief minister’s office had to get down to the business and start the damage control by writing an open letter to Eenadu founder Ramoji Rao, though most of the media in the State carried the report.
Though his statement was not carried by the media as it was addressed to Eenadu, the BJP had responded denying any such possibility. This denial too was reported widely in the media causing further damage to the ruling party.
Angered at the development, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy is understood to have told the Minister to keep away from the media for some time. The CMO had sent a clear message to the Minister asking him not to interact with the media on any issue.
Bosta Satyanarayana holds the portfolio of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, which is connected to the capital – Amaravati and Visakhapatnam. Amaravati is already a major issue for the ruling party with the farmers holding protests and the opposition cashing in on it. His series of statements on Amaravati have aggravated the issue with farmers getting angry.
Now, his latest statement on alliance with the BJP, before the chief minister made any statement or gave any indications, caused severe damage to the party and the government. The Muslim and Christian communities in the party, which have been the backbone of the party, are having second thoughts on their support to the party as the media is highlighting the news about the possible allaiance.
Whether or not the alliance would be a reality in future, the statement of the Minister caused damage to the party’s image and that is said to be the reason why the CMO had asked the Minister to keep his mouth shut for some time.
