HC orders CBI probe into Dr.Sudhakar issue
The AP High Court ordered the CBI to investigate into the alleged manhandling of a government doctor(K.Sudhakar Rao) by police recently in Vizag
Taking serious note of the incident occurred on 16 May, the high court on Friday directed that a case be booked against the policemen involved. It asked the CBI to submit its report in two months. On Wednesday the HC directed the Visakhapatnam sessions judge to personally visit the Government Hospital for Mental Health where Sudhakar Rao was admitted and record his statement.
The TDP leader V.Anitha wrote a letter to HC court seeking a probe into the ill-treatment of the doctor , arrest and admission to a mental hospital. The court treated her letter as a petition.
Sudhakar Rao, civil assistant surgeon, Area Hospital, Narsipatnam, was suspended two months ago after he publicly criticised the government for failing to provide N95 masks to the doctors treating Covid-19 patients.
He was arrested by the police in Visakhapatnam on May 16 for allegedly creating nuisance on the road at Akkayapalem. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has lodged a protest with the Andhra Pradesh government over the police inappropriately handling Sudhakar.
