Galla Aruna quits TDP, speculation on Jayadev
Former minister Galla Aruna had finally called it a day in the TDP on Thursday. She had sent her resignation letter to the party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. She had quit the primary membership of the party too, giving a rude shock to the party leadership, which is otherwise busy in reorganising the party.
Naidu had started rejig of the party in the state. He had constituted party committees for the first time with the Parliamentary constituency as base reverting from the revenue district model. The YSR Congress was the first to reorganise the party considering the Parliamentary constituency as unit, followed by the BJP in the state. The TDP had finally followed suit, even in restructuring the party.
In less than a week that Chandrababu Naidu had appointed the party presidents for the Parliamentary constituency, Aruna had sent her resignation to the leadership. While it is not known whether she is not happy with the party reorganising the district units or dejected with the party ignoring her in appointing to the politburo, Aruna had taken the step at this critical stage leaving the party.
Aruna’s son is the Guntur MP for the second time and is the TD Parliamentary Party leader now, with just two MPs from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha. The TDP had seen leaders deserting one after the other and it started with the party MPs Y S Chowdary, C M Ramesh, the most trusted lieutenants of Chandrababu Naidu, quitting the party and joining the BJP.
Back home in AP, the TDP is passing through critical time with legislators moving away from the party. Starting with Gannavaram legislator Vallabhaneni Vamsi, the party had seen MLAs Maddali Giridhar, Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy and Vasupalli Ganesh have met Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and are keeping away from the party.
Now, with Aruna quitting the party, it is to be seen what move her son and TD Parliamentary Party leader Jayadev would make. The focus is now shifted to Jayadev and his decision.
