Before Sankranthi, the lakhs of accounts of mothers in the state of andhrapradesh is showered with the funds disbursed by the government under Jagananna Ammavodi. On Monday the chief minister of Andhrapradesh YS Jaganmohan Reddy has launched second phase of Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme in Nellore. Around 44,48,865 beneficiaries are getting a benefit of Rs 6,673 crore second year in a row since its launch. The amount will be directly credited to the bank accounts of beneficiary mothers, which will be benefiting around 84 lakh children in the State. It is a flagship programme, which is a part of the Navaratnalu mentioned in the manifesto of YSR Congress during elections in 2019. The motive of the scheme is to support the poor families financially to increase education and literacy in the state. As per the motive, every children below 12 class are getting RS 15,000 per annum to each mother or recognized guardian in the absence of mother, below poverty line household in all recognized Government, Private Aided and Private Unaided schools/ Jr. Colleges including Residential Schools/Colleges in the State from the Academic year 2020-2021. The scheme has helped in improving the literacy rate of the state during the first phase of its launch and is meant to encourage those who dropped their studies due to financial difficulties to rejoin and complete their education. Speaking on this occasion the chief minister YS Jagan assured the students, who don’t want Ammavodi will be given a lap top, with three years of guaranty. Anyhow, this scheme has filled the josh in the faces of middle class and lower middle class as they got money to meet the festival expenditure.
