Vijay Devarakonda aims big with Puri Jagannadh
Puri Jagannadh can come up with characters that last long with audiences and he proved it long back with Idiot, Desamuduru, Pokiri, Sivamani, and many other films.
He finally delivered success with Ismart Shankar after Temper, and he is looking to use Vijay Devarakonda's mass appeal in his next film. Puri comes with the advantage of being able to craft a universally loveable character and VD is betting high on it.
He has been showing signs of going Pan-India ever since Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam films became successful even in Tamil. Also, his performance in Arjun Reddy got good traction among Bollywood producers even though Shahid Kapoor left a lasting impression as Kabir Singh in the Hindi remake of the same film.
According to VD's proposals, Puri has agreed to shoot the film in Mumbai mostly and give it a universal setting than just local flavor as he did in Ismart Shankar. The movie is not a complete love story, but it will have elements that romantic movie fans of VD will expect from his film, it seems.
While VD pushed Dear Comrade as a Pan-South Indian film, after the success of his films, which lead to its failure, he this time asked upfront his filmmakers to look for a script that works Pan-India, it seems. Well, let's hope Puri is at his best and changes VD's slightly monotonous script selection with a big hit at Pan-India level.
